Attendance Card Collection - Secretary Stephanie

We will be collecting your stamped attendance index cards today and will give you new cards for the next semester.  You can receive up to 4 credits for 1st and 2nd quarter attendance. 

Officer Elections - President Jesse

Interested in running for ANY elected officer position? (President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer). If you did not pick up the paperwork last week, please do so today. We definitely have openings for Treasurer and Vice-President.  We expect all officers to attend the annual District Leadership Training Conference weekend from Friday March 27th to Sunday March 29th.  If you are planning to run remember your contract is due no later than next Monday, February 9th.      

Deadly Doo-Wop Dance - Treasurer Daniela

A 50’s themed murder mystery dance on Wednesday February 4th from 7-9pm at Temple Beth Am, 2377 Merrick Ave in Merrick.  Admission is $10, proceeds go to Love Our Children.  Tickets are available from Samantha Ovadia.  You will receive 2 credits if you submit a signed activity verification form within 1 week of the event. 

Rosemary Kennedy School Dance - Vice President Rebecca

This Friday February 6th from 7-9pm at Rosemary Kennedy School (located at 2850 N. Jerusalem Road in Wantagh) is the monthly dance for the BOCES programs of Nassau County.  You will monitor and mingle with the BOCES guests and serve food.  Space is limited to 15 students and you must be able to stay the entire time for 2 credits.  If you have not yet attended this year, you must get there early (6:45pm) for training.  A few spots are still available, sign up today.

Animal Shelter Collection - Vice President Phoebe

Bideawee is a local animal shelter in need of supplies.  We are collecting gently used bath towels, sheets, blankets, dog and cat toys and treats (no rawhide), cat food, and meat flavored baby food (no dog food).  Bring in at least 3 items in a bag with your name and grade on a piece of paper INSIDE of the bag to receive 1 credit.  Drop off items to room 308 as soon as possible.   

Dog Biscuit Workshop and Delivery - Treasurer Daniela

Tuesday February 10th from 2:30-4pm in room 137 we will be baking dog biscuits to bring to Bideawee, a local animal shelter.  Delivery to the shelter will be Thursday February 12th.  We will meet there at 3pm and you must have your own ride there and back.  Bideawee is located at 3300 Beltagh Ave in Wantagh.  Sign up lists are full so if you cannot attend you must let us know.     

Dancing with the Teachers - President Jesse

Wednesday February 11th at 7pm here at JFK, student government and PTA are running a fundraiser where you will see 9 teachers (including our advisor Mrs. Marando) and one surprise special guest perform a dance routine with their professional partners from Arthur Murry Dance Studio.  The cost is $10 and you can buy tickets from Mrs. Marando in room 308.  You will receive 1 credit if you submit a signed activity verification form within 1 week of the event. 

Students Assisting Seniors - Vice President Phoebe

Wednesday February 11th, from 3:00 to 4:45, is the next event at the Bristal in Westbury. There is a limit of 15 students. You need your own ride there and back, and there is a no-jeans policy. The Bristal is located at 117 Post Ave. in Westbury.  

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - Treasurer Daniela

They are looking for high school students to serve on their Student Youth Board. You meet 4 times a year and will actually be sitting on the board for the foundation acting as a liaison between the foundation and the school.  Not only can you get community service but they will write college recommendation letters for your service. Can Tabs for Charity - Secretary Stephanie

This is an ongoing collection.  Keep collecting as many can tabs as you possibly can.   Not only will we be helping the environment by recycling the metal can tabs but they will be sold to scrap metal companies for cash that is donated to the Ronald McDonald House charity.  We will collect them and award credit at the end of the year. 

Credits Committee - Vice President Phoebe

Earn credits throughout the year by logging our members’ credits.  You must be able to stay after our Monday meetings until about 3:30 to participate.  We will not necessarily meet every week, but we need the same volunteers consistently.  Stay After meeting today.

Make sure you pick up verification forms for all activities you participate in.  Get them signed before handing them in with your name, grade, and activity listed.  For all activities, the Activity Verification Form must be signed by the advisor, a person running the event, or an officer, and must be handed in within 1 week at our Monday meetings or to Mrs. Marando in rm 308.
