The
Kiwanis Club of the Bellmores raises money for many
different Groups, Clubs, Organizations and
Charities, as well as specific individuals and
families. Furthermore, our club will help
others in need as we see fit.
One
of the biggest Initiatives that our club (and
Kiwanis Clubs Internationally) supports is the Key
Clubs & Aktion Clubs in our district. We
currently sponsor the
Bellmore John F. Kennedy Key
Club, the
Bellmore Mepham Key Club,
the Grand Avenue Builders Club, and the BRAND NEW
Aktion Club of Nassau Boces
RKS at Bellmore JFK
Funds raised from
our various
events and other
efforts are used, in part, to support these 4 great
Kiwanis Sponsored groups.
Our club has
always supported the local communities and we have
several efforts that we work with on a continuing
basis.
These efforts include:
-Providing over 100 food baskets/year during the
holiday season
-Providing over 50 hams during the holidays
-Providing pool passes to families in need for
the summer
-Awarding Scholarships ranging from $500-$1500
to local students
-Sending children less fortunate
to camp during the summer
In addition, the
Kiwanis Club of the Bellmores strives to continually
find new ways to disseminate our funds. One
way that we do this is by
offering to help those in need on
demand & in whatever way they need.
This includes:
Purchasing all supplies for and
then building a wheelchair ramp for a local
fireman who was hurt and whose insurance would
not cover many of his needs. Some members of
our club actually were the ones that built the
ramp at the man’s house.
In 2009 the Kiwanis Club of the
Bellmores “adopted” an army unit to which a
recent high school grad from our town is
assigned. We are supplying the unit with basic
necessities (toiletries, clothing, etc) as well
as more specific items like movies, books, and
even an IPod

Our
Aktion Club |
|
|
| |
|
The Kiwanis Club of the Bellmores is one of the
first Long Island based Kiwanis Clubs
to sponsor an Aktion Club. The
development of the "Aktion
Club of Nassau Boces RKS at Bellmore JFK"
is something that we are extremely proud of.
We would like to offer
a special "thank you" to Bellmore Kiwanian, Judy
Mankita. Judy is our liaison to this club as
well as the Bellmore
John F. Kennedy Key Club
and is the creative spark behind the Aktion
Club here in Bellmore. THANKS JUDY !

Companions in Courage
The
Companions in Courage Foundation was originally
founded by NHL Hall of Famer, Pat LaFontaine in
1997. In just the last five years our efforts have
gone to raising funds to build interactive playrooms

10th
Grade Class in Africa
In
March 2010, the Kiwanis Club of the Bellmores
purchased calculators for a class of 10th
graders in Africa. The students need these
calculators to help them pass a required math
test and continue on to 11th grade. |

St.
Barnabas Food Pantry
The food pantry
informs us on a yearly basis how many boxes and
hams they need and when they need it by. This
year, the Kiwanis club of Bellmore bought the
boxes of food (80) and hams (66) which will be
delivered Friday and Saturday, the 18th and 19th
of December.
