Another year, another successful Leadership Training Conference (formally district convention). We learned, we laughed, we cried, and most importantly we came together as a unified club to help the world. JFK Key Club would like to congradulate Allen Yu, Teri Bunce, and our division’s own, Eli Kozin. We definitely look forward to next year’s conference and hope it will be just as exciting as this year’s was.

Unfortunately, we were unable to supercede the total number of pints collected last year; however we did collect 119 pints of blood from over 140 donors. We would like to thank all the volunteers, the blood drive staff, and, of course, the donors. We look to continue our success next year and carry on this Kennedy tradition of saving lives.

KIWANIS BELL

03-10-09

Club Officers Presidents - Kevin Lyons & John Monks Vice Pres – Walt Andersen Secretary – Seth Meyerowitz Treasurer – Charlie Capitano Past Pres. – Bill Sette Meeting Happenings To Bellmore Kiwanis Members and all of our prospective members. Greetings to all of our Kiwanis Family of the Bellmores. It's been a long while since a notice was sent to all members and Co-Pres. John and Kevin and the Board have decided that our next night meeting on March 17th will be a business meeting. We have much to discuss: We will hopefully find a means to get greater attendance at our meetings. A final report on the Bellmore Street Fair and comments in light of the current financial problems our community is facing and how we can help families in distress. Perhaps greater help to the Community Food Pantry. Our Kamp Kiwanis needs more help after the devastating hurricane season. And by the way we received a call from Janet Seyfried, our coordinator of Shore Road School saying she already has four children to go to Kamp. Our goal is 11. Walter Andersen reports that the placemat ads are at about 75%. We ask all members to get a sponsor. It's only $25.00. Our financial position is good, not excellent but we have enough reserve to meet our commitments. Hopefully this year we can resume the family pool passes. Treas. Charlie will be on hand and he promises a very detailed report on how our money is being spent and will be there for your information. You read off all the checks we have dispensed and any explanation that is requested. And finally most important it's time to select our officers and Board for the coming 2009/2010. We realize that the next night meeting is Tues. March 17th, St. Patrick's Day, and you will have had enough corned beef and cabbage and will be grateful for Piccolo's delicious cuisine. Our next Spouses/Guests night is Tuesday April 7th. Please make a special effort to join us on the night of March 17th, St. Patrick's Day, our host Tom V. promised a green night, including the wine. And a special invitation to those of you who have missed some of our meetings. Come on down and join the pleasure of Kiwanis kinship!!! BRING A FRIEND! Official Press Release: (download now) 2009 Annual Long Island Pancake Breakfast www.BellmoreKiwanis.org/Pancake-Breakfast.html April 19th – Bellmore, New York Thank you for your interest in the 2009 Annual Long Island Pancake Breakfast Presented by the Kiwanis Club of the Bellmores. This event has been running successfully for more than 30 years. The Pancake Breakfast is a 1 day event on a Sunday in mid to late April. This event features an "all-you-can-eat" Pancake, Bacon, and Sausage breakfast. Now in its 35th year, the people that make this great event possible would like to put a bit of a new spin on it. "LET's GO GREEN", declared Andrew Meyerowitz, a member of the club and an active participant since he could walk. Joining Andrew is his brother, Seth (Club Secretary and Website Chair), and sister, Rachel. The concept was mulled over and the decision was made to not only present a "GREEN" Pancake Breakfast (don't worry the pancakes themselves are not green) but to expand the green concept into our other events including the Bellmore Lions & Kiwanis Club's Annual Nassau County Strawberry Festival (now in its 24th year). "When we think about the amount of garbage our events create and the contribution to landfills, we felt we had to do something", said Andrew who is taking the lead on this effort. Andrew added, "It is very interesting to see how large of a "Carbon Footprint" we leave after our events". With the help of the Kiwanis Club (and Lions Club), these two events will be revamped in order to begin making strides to improve our community. John Monks, President of the Bellmore Kiwanis Club explains, "This is what our clubs are all about, improving the communities that we live in and helping the members of those communities". Joe Anderson, Lions Club President, emphasizes that "it is important for clubs like ours to begin taking these steps and setting a good example for the members of our communities and show that everyone should get involved". The Bellmore Kiwanis will look to raise monies to support the community and more importantly the individuals that need a bit of extra help. One way the club is able to do this is by putting together a Large Placemat for advertising. Ads are about the size of a normal business card and may be purchased at a cost of $25 for one or $40 for a double. Ads include 2 free tickets to the event (a $10 value) and a listing on our website. SPONSORSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE. If you or your business would like more information about the placemat ads, please contact the Kiwanis at Contact@BellmoreKiwanis.com or 516-650-1939. The Pancake Breakfast is open to the general public. This year's breakfast is Sunday, April 19th, from 8:30-11:30 am. The event is held at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Bellmore Avenue in Bellmore. Admission is only $5.00 and parking is free. Our local High School Key Clubbers will be in attendance helping out and please remember that all members of the Kiwanis Club are volunteers. We greatly appreciate ALL of your support as it "Helps Us Help Others". Be assured that 100% of the money goes directly to assisting those in our communities that need it most. More details about this event and others can be found on the Kiwanis Club's website at www.BellmoreKiwanis.org. Also, you can contact the club directly at Contact@BellmoreKiwanis.com or via phone at 516-650-1939 (ask for John Monks).
