2009 Nassau Country Strawberry Festival

May 27th-31st – Bellmore, New York
Thank you for your interest in the 2009 Nassau County Strawberry Festival Presented by the Kiwanis & Lions Clubs of the Bellmores. This event has been running for more than 20 years and draws crowds of over 75,000 people each year. The Nassau County Strawberry Festival is a 5 day event usually running in late May from Wednesday-Sunday. This event features a full carnival including rides and games and food as well as a Strawberry themed food and beverage area. Now in its 21st year, the people that make this great event possible would like to put a bit of a new spin on it.
"LET'S GO GREEN", declared Andrew Meyerowitz, a member of the club and an active participant since he could walk. Joining Andrew is his brother, Seth (Club Secretary and Website Chair), and sister, Rachel. The concept was mulled over and the decision was made to not only present a "GREEN" Strawberry Festival (don't worry the strawberries themselves are not green) but to expand the green concept into our other events including the Kiwanis's Annual Pancake Breakfast (now in its 35th year).
"When we think about the amount of garbage our events create and the contribution to landfills, we felt we had to do something", said Andrew who is taking the lead on this effort. Andrew added, "It is very interesting to see how large of a 'Carbon Footprint' we leave after our events". With the help of the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs, these two events will be revamped in order to begin making strides to improve our community. John Monks, President of the Bellmore Kiwanis Club explains, "This is what our clubs are all about, improving the communities that we live in and helping the members of those communities". Joe Anderson, Lions Club President, emphasized that "it is important for clubs like ours to begin taking these steps and setting a good example for the members of our communities and show that everyone should get involved".
The two clubs will look to Long Island based businesses and organizations to fill a new Green Businesses Expo area where these groups can display to the large festival crowd the steps they are taking to Go Green and decrease their own Carbon Footprints. If you or your business would like more information about the expo area, please contact the Kiwanis at Contact@BellmoreKiwanis.com or 516-650-1939.
The festival is open to the general public. Wednesday and Thursday (6-10pm) | Friday (6-11pm) | Saturday (12-11pm) | Sunday (12-8pm) & Admission is only $2.00 and parking is free. Additionally, visitors to this family oriented festival will indulge in a variety of strawberry delights and carnival foods plus enjoy many other attractions, including carnival rides and live entertainment each night.
Also new this year to the Strawberry Festival event will be a "Craft/General Vendor" area. This will be a place where Long Island businesses can display their goods and services to the crowd. Crafters, musicians, and more are invited. If you or your business would like more information about the expo area, please contact the Kiwanis at Contact@BellmoreKiwanis.com or 516-650-1939.
More details about this event and others can be found on the Kiwanis Club's website at www.BellmoreKiwanis.org. Also, you can contact the clubs directly at Contact@BellmoreKiwanis.com or via phone at 516-650-1939 (ask for John Monks).
